The South African Dyers’ and Finishers’ Association Fabric, Dyeing and Finishing Course

Course duration:

3 years, 33 weeks per year OR 5 weeks (100 hours) in Cape Town/Port Elizabeth.

Venue:

Durban University of Technology, Steve Biko Campus, Botanic Gardens Road, Berea, Durban

Day and time:

Monday evenings from 16h00 to +-19h00

Description:

Textile manufacturing certificate course, designed predominantly for the wet processing field, but with extensive coverage of dry manufacturing.

Target attendees:

Primarily wet processing personnel, but the course is highly beneficial to dry processing and all lab / QA staff in textile related functions

Recognition:

Nationally recognised as a sound technical qualification in textile processing.  The SADFA certificate is issued to all students who pass their 3rd year.

The course has run for over 30 years, and uses lecturers with vast technical and manufacturing experience.

1st Year:

  • Dyeing of Wool and Nylon
  • Dyeing of Blends including Lycra
  • Finishing of Fabrics
  • Fundamentals of Dyeing and Finishing Technology
  • Cotton and its properties
  • Synthetic fibres
  • Spinning Technology
  • Weaving and Knitting Technology

2nd Year:

  • Classification of Colourants
  • Dyeing of Cotton
  • Preparation of Cotton and
  • Detergents
  • Resin Finishing of Cotton
  • Manufacture of Textile Fibres
  • Spinning and Weaving Systems
  • Dyeing of narrow fabrics

                Polyester/Cotton blends

3rd Year:

  • Dyeing of Synthetic fibres and their blends
  • Drying
  • Machinery
  • Ecology
  • Quality Assurance
  • Testing of raw materials and finished goods
  • Fabric Construction
  • Texturising
